Onion-Cheese Supper Bread Recipe

Packaged biscuit mix makes this savory bread doable any night of the week.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1 tablespoon margarine or butter
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 slightly beaten egg
- 1-1/2 cups packaged biscuit mix
- 1 cup shredded sharp process American cheese or cheddar cheese (4 ounces)
- 1 tablespoon poppy seed
- Cooked, thinly sliced onion (optional)
- 1 tablespoon margarine or butter, melted
- Grease an 8x1-1/2-inch round baking pan. Set aside.
- Cook chopped onion in the 1 tablespoon margarine or butter until onion is tender.
- Stir together the milk and egg. Add to biscuit mix; stir just until moistened. Add the onion mixture, half of the cheese, and half of the poppy seed to biscuit mix mixture. Spread batter into prepared pan. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese and the remaining poppy seed. If desired, arrange cooked, thinly sliced onion on top.
- Drizzle the 1 tablespoon melted margarine or butter over mixture in pan. Bake in a 400 degree F oven about 20 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Serve warm. Makes 8 servings.
