It's wise to brush barbecue sauce on meat during the last several minutes of cooking. It prevents the sauce from burning, while still adding flavor.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion (1 medium)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil or cooking oil
  • 3/4 cup apple juice
  • 1/2 of a 6-oz. can (1/3 cup) tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp. packed brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. molasses
  • 1 Tbsp. paprika
  • 1 Tbsp. prepared horseradish
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
Directions
  • In a medium saucepan, cook onion and garlic in hot oil over medium heat until onion is tender. Stir in apple juice, tomato paste, vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, paprika, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Bring to boiling; reduce heat.
